The Irish Tenors became familiar to audiences in March of 1999 through their highly successful concert, taped in Dublin, and aired on PBS. The original members, John McDermott, Anthony Kearns, and Ronan Tynan delighted audiences on television and on concert tours throughout the US. They followed up their first CD, “The Irish Tenors” with a Christmas CD, “Home for Christmas” that fall.
A second PBS concert, “Live in Belfast”, was scheduled for early 2000 and taped with a last minute lineup change. Finbar Wright replaced John McDermott, who bowed out due to the death of his mother several weeks earlier. John appeared in the concert as a special guest. A third PBS program, “Ellis Island” was recorded in The Great Hall at Ellis Island and aired in 2001. Another Christmas CD, “We Three Kings” was released in 2003 and “Heritage”, debuted in 2004.
In May 2004, Ronan Tynan announced that he would be leaving The Irish Tenors at the end of their summer concert tour to pursue a solo career. John McDermott rejoined the group and they recorded a new CD, "Sacred". The group had several tours in the US, Canada and Ireland from the fall of 2004 through the spring of 2006. Following the Spring '06 tour, John McDermott announced that he would again leave the Irish Tenors, this time to concentrate on his solo shows in the US and Canada.
